SRTS programming at John Valenzuela Youth Center has been ongoing for years in partnership with the Ochoa Community School. The Ochoa/JVYC Bike Club has been an impactful part for the participants during the last several years. Students have gotten to know members of their community and explored the neighborhood during the bike club community rides.
The 2022-2023 bike club cohort participated in regular community rides and skill-building activities. BICAS Youth Education Coordinators led weekly after-school bike club meetings at JVYC along with a couple of volunteers. The bike club participation grew this school year and had consistent participation and excitement from the students. One of the highlight group rides the students participated on was to the Garden Kitchen in their neighborhood.
